石油工程是一个比较大的工程板块，涵盖地质勘探、油气钻采、油气集输和储运、油气加工处理、油气产品销售、合同与标书等几大部分。
工程英语的特点是严谨，语言和技术都要求严谨。石油工程英语中大多数句子结构并不复杂，但翻译时也有仔细斟酌，不能随意增加和消减原文要点，但需要时必须利用重复翻译和增加解释才能把原文含义表达清楚、准确。

逐句分析：

句型主干：provide …for…with… ，用……为 ……动力， 其被动式be provided with…在工程英语中也比较常用。lrotary rig 旋转钻机或称为rotary drilling rig, rig in rotary drilling,是相对于钻井早期的顿钻钻机而言，即rig with cable-tool method （顿钻法）
名词+过去分词的用法：
air/ electricity/ battery-powered 气动的/电动的/使用电池的
(2) Most of these generators have capacities of 50 to 100 kilowatts，although larger units are sometimes installed．
these重复翻译出来，指的是上文提到的AC发电机，与其它场所中的AC发电机区别。

两种翻译：即“尽管…，但…”或“……不过”
(3) The generators have enough capacity to carry the main power load of the rig (excluding hoisting，pumping，and rotating functions)．

is held in ready reserve 是 hold sth in reserve（拥有……作为备用）的被动式，这里翻译时转换成主动好一些。
(5) AC electricity is used for rig lighting，shale shaker motors，mud pit stirrers，centrifugal pumps，rig instruments，engine-cooling fans，air conditioning for bunkhouses，and other purposes．
be used to do sth 被用来做……与 be used for doing sth. 被用于做……是有区别的：
如： The shale shaker is used to remove the largest cuttings. 振动筛用来脱除最大颗粒的岩屑。这里The shale shaker 是remove的执行者。
Cement can be used for building roads.水泥可用来修路。这里从cement不是build的执行者，因此这里不能使用be used to do sth结构。
而be used for sth 是被用于……
bunkhouse = camp house 营房 camp boss 营房经理
