翻译中出现主语过长 谓语过短使句子失去平衡 可用倒装

有些句子如果按照正常语序来处理，可能出现主语过长，谓语过短的现象，从而使句子失去平衡。因此，翻译时常常采用倒装语序，这样，不但可以避免头重脚轻，而且可以使各个成分之间得到合理的衔接。这种倒装手段在科技翻译中尤为重要。

谓语为不及物动词或系词，主语之后有较长的附加成分：

1）在建筑工地的中央有一座塔吊，正在把预制构件往一座高楼的构架上起吊。

At the centre of the construotion site stands a tower crane which is lifting the prefabricated elements and parts onto the frame of a high-rise building.

2）天花板的正中央悬挂着一只豪华的、有着奶白色灯罩的枝形吊灯，散发着和谐的色调，并使人产生壮严宏伟的感觉。

From the middle of the ceiling is hanging a luxurious chandelier with milky shades, giving a narmonious colour to the room and causing a feeling of majesty.

3）中国的房屋多数是用砖木结构盖起来的，石基瓦顶，窗子小得连一个人也爬不进，不会超过五层楼；没有电标，没有洗浴间，没有抽水马桶，没有自来水，没有空调，甚至连一座阳台也看不见的那样的时代已经一去不复返了。

Gone are the days when Chinese houses were mostly built of brick and wood structure on stone bases and under tiling roofs，with windows so small as not to let a person crawl in and with a height never exceeding five storeys，in which there were no lifts，no bathrooms，no water-

closets，no tap water，no air-conditioning，and even not a single balcony seen from without.
